Senior Researcher at the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research and Director of the Earth System Science Centre. Associate professor in the Ecology Post Graduate programs at the CCST/INPE, UFJF and UNESP. Ometto worked extensively on evaluating uncertainties associated to above ground biomass estimates and its effects on carbon emissions, at local and regional scales. Has contributed to the Brazilian Government on the issues related to the quantification of carbon emissions from LULUCF sector. Recent research focus on effects of anthropogenic activities and climate change on natural biogeochemical processes, land use and land cover, effects on green house gases emissions and nutrient balance. Nominated IPCC-AR5 contributor for WG-II and Task Force on GHG emissions inventories, in the IPBES on Regional and Sub-Regional Scoping Assessment and for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) in Latin America; Brazilian Representative on the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research Executive Council; Associated Member of The Global Carbon project and Member of the Sao Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP) Climate Change Research Program board.
