Dr. Cargele Masso is a soil scientist working for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). His research activities are mainly in the area of quality control and efficacy assessment of fertilizer supplements, soil fertility management including evidence-based fertilizer and soil amendment recommendations. Since 2012, he is leading a project on the institutionalization of quality control and scaling up profitable bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticide technologies in sub-Saharan Africa.
Before joining IITA, he had worked in Canada as a regulatory officer in the Fertilizer Section of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and post-doctoral fellow at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (soil fertility). Dr. Masso holds a Ph.D. in Soil and Environmental Science (Université Laval in Québec, Canada); a M.Sc. in Environmental Science (Université de Sherbrooke in Québec, Canada); and a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in soil chemistry and plant nutrition from the Zhejiang (Agriculture) University in Hangzhou (China). He also holds a Certificate in Project Management (Université du Québec en Outaouais, Canada).
